WATCH: Former England and GB 7s Captain Tom Mitchell makes MLR debut

Tom Mitchell made his Major League Rugby debut for the LA Giltinis at the weekend.

Former England 7s captain Tom Mitchell made his MLR debut for the Giltinis last Sunday against the Dallas Jackals. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was the venue for the 7s speedster's debut in California. The Giltinis ran out 47 to 7 winners against the Jackals in the round 9 clash.

Mitchell had a glorified career on the 7s pitch, captaining Team GB to a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. 2016 was the first time since 1924 that rugby was played at the Olympics, and the first ever time in the 7 aside format.

In 2014, Mitchell was nominated for World 7s Player of the Year, in a season where England finished fourth in the series. Tom has scored 135 tries for England on the World Series over the course of his career.

A few months following the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), Mitchell was announced as a new signing for the reigning MLR champions, the LA Giltinis. Mitchell signed a two year contract, keeping him in Los Angeles until 2024.

Mitchell came off the bench in the 49th minute of the clash against the Jackals to make his debut at fullback. The Jackals are a new side to the league this season, having pushed back their entry from the 2021 season.
