WATCH: Handre Pollard's class will have all of South Africa longing for his recovery

South African ace flyhalf and goal kicker Handre Pollard suffered a terrible season-ending knee injury back in September. Ever since the injury, his involvement in the upcoming 2021 Lions series has been cast in serious doubt. Injuries aside, this video shows why he remains the first choice 10 for the Springboks going forward.

The world champions are expecting a huge year ahead as they play host to the British and Irish Lions in 2021. With that in mind, serious questions remain around the most vital position on the field.

They still have ample cover in the experienced Elton Jantjies, while up-and-coming Curwin Bosch also gives them an exciting look at what the future holds.

Bosch is currently tearing things up with the Sharks in Currie Cup action.

Head coach Sean Everitt made his feelings known concerning his rising star. "I am so proud of Curwin. He is kicking so well at the moment... He is certainly running the game like a mature flyhalf should do.

"He is looking more and more like an international flyhalf and hopefully, he can continue that performance. This young chap is just growing with confidence and I can’t wait for him to reach his full potential."

Jantjies certainly isn't making things easy, having recently led his Lions to a 27-12 win over Bosch and the Sharks.

Even though both could provide decent cover if called upon, it's obvious that Pollard remains the Test-proven incumbent. Much like Dan Carter in years past, most who step into the role seem to be placeholders.

2021 and the Lions tour is rapidly approaching and only time will tell if Pollard will be ready.
