WATCH: James O’Connor back to his best displaying his incredible playmaking abilities

2 try assists and 2 line break assists that led directly to tries. All in the one game for the Reds playmaker.

James O’Connor has had a storied career. From debuting as a 17 year old for the Western Force in 2008. He remains the youngest Super Rugby debutant ever at 17 years of age. 14 years later, O’Connor is looking more dangerous than ever. In a slightly different way than he was when he debuted, as a fleet-footed and rapid outside back. It is now his ball playing and playmaking ability winning games for his team.

His playmaking ability is what separated the two teams in the Reds win against the Western Force on Friday. The scoreline was close at the 65 minute mark, 16-15 in favour of the Force. With just 15 minutes to go, O’Connor took the game into his hands. A pinpoint grubber kick to Reds left winger Josh Flook put the Reds in the lead and they never looked back.

Head coach Brad Thorn is obviously getting the best out of the experienced flyhalf. O’Connor is leading Super Rugby Pacific with 4 Try Assists after just 3 games. The next highest has only 2. The Reds are unbeaten so far in the competition. If O’Connor can keep up his good form, it may stay like that for a while yet.
