WATCH: Ngani Laumape hopeful of rule change after setting up scintillating match winner

The pace and power that Laumape possesses is obvious for everyone to see. It was that very skill set that assisted in creating the match winning try for Stade Francis. Bursting through the line in the 80th minute before a perfectly timed pass to Fullback Kylan Hamdaoui cemented Stade Francais win.

Laumape has been in great form since moving from Super Rugby to the French Top 14. It’s no wonder he could expect to be a shoo-in selection for the Tongan International team.

Following his try, Laumape took to twitter to again discuss World Rugby’s test eligibility rules. The 15 test All Black had this to say.

It’s easy to imagine Tonga would welcome him with open arms. Additionally, World Rugby having strong Pacific Island teams can only be a good thing for the sport. However, the New Zealand born All Black played the last of his All Black matches in 2020. It would be a quick change of international allegiance to be allowed to play for another test team so soon.

With the rules as they are it appears Tongan fans will be disappointed with Laumape not being eligible for the side until 2025.
