Crusaders replacement front row Hugh Roach was given a straight red card for elbowing an opponent in Saturday’s Super Rugby game against Sunwolves.
Roach was hit late after making a pass by prop Hencus van Wyk which angered the Crusaders player enough to swing an elbow at his head.
This left the referee with no option but to give Roach a red card in the 67th minute of the game, leaving the visitors the challenge of playing the final 10 minutes with a man less.
The Crusaders rose to the challenge running away with a 14-49 win at Suncorp Stadium leaving them top of the New Zealand conference after six rounds.
