WATCH: Springbok Jesse Kriel scores breakaway try in Japan with sublime piece of skill

Jesse Kriel scored this wonderful try for the Yokohama Canon Eagles last Sunday.

Jesse Kriel featured heavily for the Eagles as they took on conference A leaders Kubota Spears last Sunday. Kriel scored a brace in the game, with the final score, being sublime. Kubota continued their fine form this season with a 50-21 win over Yokohama last Sunday in Japan League One.

Kubota was always going to be a tough matchup for Yokohama, home or away, with Kubota winning their first 4 of 5 games this season. Kriel scored the final try of the game in the 79th minute as Yokohama played from inside their own 22. They move the ball through the hands to make a break out wide. A beautiful pass, while drawing the covering defenders from substitue Michael Bond, puts Kriel in space. Having received the ball on the touchline, Kriel puts in a chip over the defenders head and gathers to score. Kriel showed an excellent burst of acceleration to win the ball over the tryline before the covering defenders. The try by Kriel was converted by Japan’s starting 10, Yu Tamura.

For Kubota, International duo Bernard Foley and Malcolm Marx both starred again, scoring a try each. Foley scored 20 points in this game, with 15 coming from the boot.

World Rugby on their Instagram, described Kriel’s try as “a touch of class”. No arguments there at all.
