WATCH: Unflattering montage showcases Jonny May's poor performance vs Springboks

England winger Jonny May put in a below average performance against the Springboks on Saturday in the final round of the Autumn Nations Series.

The world class finisher wasn’t on his game against the reigning world champions and suffered a series of handling errors and basic mistakes which were uncharacteristic of the Gloucester star.

May is the second highest try scorer in the history of England rugby with 35 tries in 69 caps behind Rory Underwood and is widely regarded as one of the world’s most dangerous finishers.

The following compilation highlights the mistakes made by May throughout the 80 minutes and while it doesn’t cover the 31-year-old in glory, there’s no denying his determination and commitment.

Despite May’s poor performance England recorded a narrow 27-26 win at Twickenham to conclude a successful Autumn Nations Series. Full match highlights are available below:

“We got away a little bit in the first half and they came back in the second half, and we knew they’d come back,” said England head coach Eddie Jones. “We just had to hang in there, absorb the punishment which we did, and then when we got the opportunity be good enough to take it.

“That was a proper Test match. We probably had an advantage in the loose play and they had an advantage in the set piece.

“We were able to get enough points in the first half to lead, they were accumulating points in the second half through their set piece, and then we were able to score enough to win the match, that is proper Test match rugby and that is why Test match rugby is loved; you don’t know where it is going or what you’re going to need to win, I’m sure those 82,000 fans in attendance loved it.”
