New Zealand lock Sam Whitlock conceded a crucial penalty for pushing England’s Owen Farrell in the face during Saturday’s semi-final in Japan.

England were leading 16-7 with 12 minutes left on the clock when New Zealand were awarded a penalty by referee Nigel Owens, possibly within range of the posts, which was reversed after Whitlock’s foul play.

England went on to win the game 19-7 to reach their first World Cup final since 2007 and full match highlights are available below:

Pushed on the forehead, Farrell then holds his hand against his eyes.Making himself even more popular.

Game was already going in the wrong way for Nz, but this incident showed the All Blacks were not mentally ready. A stupid shove by Whitelock. And Farrell, what can you say, just a pretty embarrassing soccer simulation.

There’s a bit of afters from the second player on top of Farrell. Game was lost before this, but this signalled the point of no return
