Reigning United Rugby Champions, The Stormers found out just how tough it is to go on the road in 2022.
Initially slipping to a disappoint draw with the Ospreys as they conceded a try with five minutes to go. Admittedly that fixture was played out in a torrential downpour that made playing running rugby nigh on impossible.
Clearly disappointed by the result, Stormers head coach made note of how excited his side was to pay on the fast Cardiff pitch which was due to suit their style of play.
Unfortunately for the defending champions things didn’t quite go to plan as Cardiff had other ideas as they picked up their biggest win of the season.
Key to the outcome was a brilliant opening score which was set up by Welsh international Rhys Priestland who landed a beauty of a cross kick for Theo Cabango to pounce.
Now thirty-five-years-old Priestland appears to be more confident in his ability than any point in his rather up and down career.
As we have seen with other flyhalves such as Dan Biggar (33), Johnny Sexton (37) and Dan Carter (38 at time of retirement) have all played some fantastic rugby at a more senior age.
Could Priestland have a late career renaissance? Performances like this would lead you to believe he can.
