Yellow Carded player winds up fans, soon becomes Red Carded player

Lille player Antoine Pierre recently found out that if you get yellow carded and then choose to wind up the away crowd by playing the fool and dancing on the sidelines, it generally won't go down well. Pierre's shenanigans against Vannes, in Federale 1 in France, resulted in an early shower.

He was already being booed so decided to egg on the crowd even more, but the referee didn't appreciate his dance moves, so promptly changed the yellow card to red. Lesson learnt!

    So in actual fact the players' clownery didn't = a yellow or red...?

    Yeah, more I think about this, I'm unhappy at the decision. The crowd now has control of the players, this was banter as far as I'm concerned, he was not rude, he was a clown... You can't boo a player like a football supporter and feel they'll give you some sort of respect, in fact, id say his actions would have diffused the tension as people would have had a laugh....

    Whilst I completely agree with the absolute need for respect, this lad didn't get anywhere close to be really disrespectful. A clown, perhaps. But I thought it was rather good humoured. And it had some entertainment value. So not worthy of another yellow (or straight red) to my opinion. A "stop it, will ya!" would have sufficed.

    Don't know if it was a second yellow or a straight red. But I have no problem with considering this an act contrary to good sportmanship.

    One thing we can learn from wendyball is that it's just not smart to challenge a large, allready emotional crowd. I know rugby is a different sport with generally speaking a different kind of crowd. But I just would not like seeing this kind of behaviour creeping into our sport.

    Besides, in South Africa there have been several incidents in which referees and supporters were assaulted after the game. So players winding up the public even more doesn't seem wise to me.

    I'm really unsure... As Dan stated, it's about respect, however the crowd were booing him and being 'disrespectful' already, as others said it's not like he swore at them or anything...

    There is a real footballesque moment here, we don't want home and away crowds having wars with each other therefore tossing this guy aside was a potentially good mood, however now away crowds can potentially bait players into reacting so that they can be punished further for offences which were not at any of the officials.... (or other players)..

    Are crowds part of the game? Or are they guests to a game? Should we play the game for the crowd? Or should the crowd be honoured to be invited to the game....I don't know what to say here, his moves were pretty harmless...

    It's about respect, an unwritten code. I don't know whether or not that should be written into the rules, but I'm happy to see the idiot get a card. I'd rather see someone get a card for this than some of the things we see cards for.

    C'mon. It is just a game. Tell him to stop. Don't give him a red. He didn't do anything obscene.
